People keep telling me Ricky Gervais is so funny… I guess I just haven’t seen the good stuff with him:
My opologies the only “cut” video I could find was recorded with a ham sandwich dipped in Vaseline.
I really wish the Right to Bear Kinder Eggs (RBKE) was reinstated.
Apparently Piers was offended at that kinder egg / AR-15 joke *eye roll*:
Good news @rickygervais – we kept in the ending to our interview with your deeply offensive joke at my expense. CNN 9pm.

Thoughts? Poor widdle Piers.

I wish somebody would educate Piers on the fact that “legally blind” does not necessarily mean someone can’t see anything.
Gervais will forever be known as the world’s first liar. ;)
I think the whole Ricky Gervais is so funny myth is perpetuated by the “the original British office is WAY better” crowd. That or those annoying hippsters that still cling to brit-pop.
I’m still hesitant about it, because while the low end of legal blindness is borderline for most pistol shootings, 20ft, that doesn’t mean all legally blind have that much sight. For me it’s a safety issue, especially in an uncontrolled situation, which is why most of us have carry licenses. Unless this post is just about trolling for Piers, then carry on.
“In North America and most of Europe, legal blindness is defined as visual acuity (vision) of 20/200 (6/60) or less in the better eye with best correction possible. This means that a legally blind individual would have to stand 20 feet (6 m) from an object to see it with the same degree of clarity as a normally sighted person could from 200 feet (60 m).
In many areas, people with average acuity who nonetheless have a visual field of less than 20 degrees (the norm being 180 degrees) are also classified as being legally blind.
Approximately ten percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. Low vision is sometimes used to describe visual acuities from 20/70 to 20/200.”
Piers probably watched “The Great Escape” too many times.
The problem here is that people like Piers think that blind people are stupid. Just because someone is blind doesn’t mean they don’t know what they might be shooting.
I like Mr. Gervais… he just wasn’t on his game this time (the full interview would be appreciated).
I kinda feel like Ricky was humoring Piers a bit, wasn’t as quick or witty in his responses to the Rupert Murdoch love child
Should a legally blind person be able to own and collect cars even though they can’t drive? Yes.
Should a legally blind person be able to own and collect guns for various reasons based on that same principle? Absolutely yes, even overlooking the 2A for the sake of argument.
I hate how owning/carrying/shooting/murdering is all grouped together on these shows. There are numerous valid reasons and many nuances gun ownership that extend outside of actually shooting. Perhaps one who is legally blind wants to maintain family heirlooms (think take home luger passed down from grandpa) or invest in guns.
This is the kind of thing I would expect to see on the daily show, a satirical spin on a controversial issue that overlooks true and valid reasoning for the purpose of humor. Sadly this is mainstream news media and the purpose much more severe than humor.
Funny how they always pick on those who have guns but aren’t using them to murder, like rednecks and now the blind apparently. Although the notion of a completely blind person having a gun seems ridiculous to me, I don’t remember ever reading in the news of how one accidentally shot a bunch of people or how blind people with guns are any real problem. As a matter of fact, upon searching I found multiple instances of blind people shooting intruders and others having remarkable marksmanship skills despite being completely blind. So once again, Piers Morgan can fuck off with his phony outrage and lame jokes about the blind shooting people. Every day some rapper releases more music glorifying not only guns, but actually using them for the purpose of murder, but you’ll never hear him go on a rant about that.
“I love America”
“I am protected by the Constitution”
“That’s why I can use the 1st amendment to make fun of the 2nd.”
This comes from a guy constantly berating the 2nd amendment. He seems to think the 1st is OK, just not the 2nd… OK.
