Bunker Living – Underground Concrete Cribs

How to live like a boss:

I have somewhat of an obsession with loft and bunker living.  I’d fix mine up way more than the ones in the video, but they’re still cool.  That hippy guy was starting to piss me off by the end of the video.

For 2 million dollars a floor for that one place though I’d probably opt for a top floor penthouse style place rather than below ground.  The fact that your ventilation has to come from above ground and exhaust pushed out above ground always kind of worries me… it seems possible for someone to easily smoke/chem you out.  Am I right?  Maybe there is some sort of protection against that?

20th Century Castles is the place that is selling these.  They have a seriously outdated website with a real lack of pictures, but I’m still hooked.

I laughed when I saw you had to order the “video tours” on VHS or DVD.  Ahaha what is this 1992?  Also, having google ads on a company website?  That’s tacky as hell.  Do they really need that extra 23 cents in revenue every month? I guess the answer to that is “maybe” because it doesn’t seem like these things sell that quick.

Make sure to check out the awesome article on the topic from the makers of the video over at TheVerge.

Anyone know someone that lives in one of these?  Got an obsession of your own with underground fortresses?

We’re getting closer to the center of the Milky way? That’s news to me!

I also like the idea of living in an old missile base. The best part would be the ~200 yard long tunnel at the bottom where the missile was stored horizontally. With proper ventilation and bullet traps, you would have a year-round 200 yard indoor range in your basement. I would disguise my bunker home like the one in Spies Like Us. You gentlemen should have a Pepsi.

Also, I would drive a 1970s panel van with “Ace Tomato Company” on the side.

    1. And when someone came to visit, would you say, “Why don’t you gentlemen have a Pepsi”?

  3. Did you guys notice the RV he has in that place? I’m pretty sure that’s an EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle!

What the fuck is the deal with hippie beatniks and drum circles?

No shit, what a schmuck. And what the hell is up with this thing? You can’t tell me that’s not a dick and two balls!

    1. Damn it; I don’t know why that link didn’t work.

Game reviewer, Yahtzee reviews various structures in Washington D.C, I suggest you watch some of his other video’s many of them are MUCH more amusing.

  4. Love the Bomb! But seriously isn’t there health risk to living in an under ground facility?
lead poisoning and high levels of naturally occurring radon.

sorry to be a wet blanket.

      I LOVE YOUR SCREEN-NAME

  5. If I lived somewhere where missile silos were prevalent, I would totally purchase and renovate one… Things like that peg the “that’s cool” meter in all kinds of ways.

I would not, however, go for the whole “survival condo” thing unless I knew 13 other multimillionaires (and was one myself) and trusted them implicitly… There are not many ways that could go right in a disaster scenario, especially when you do not really know the other tenants.

Good point about knowing your neighbors. The one thing about living underground, is besides the fact it might be safer in some situations, the price point isn’t really doing it for me in the current market. Unless you’re actually just trying to stay alive, living in one those full time in most cases might seem akin to prison.

Since I first posted about 20th century castles a while back I notice almost all of the same properties are still on the website. Seems as if they are trying to strike it rich with a buy and hold type strategy, rather than dropping the price until they sell.

  6. Wish i could have moved in there, would have made a nice indoor shooting range and a killer apocalypse bunker! Instead some peace and love hippie bought it and has his weekly drum circle hippie parties where my reload station should be at!!! lol Awesome place though, would be cool to take a tour.

  7. I’d love to have my own bunker, but I want to live there alone. Just my luck that I drop $1 mil on a bunker and my next door neighbor turns out to be a douche from Top Shot or a drum beating, chanting hippy. It might be hard turning that property over to get away from a crazy neighbor.
