Freedom Firearms in Battle Creek, MI have an awesome new mailbox:
Fabricated by Steve’s Welding here in Battle Creek Michigan. He said the project took about 4 months in his spare time. It’s all steel and wood. there is 4 feet of concrete in the ground and an internal post through the grip frame. The hammer is checkered, and the back of the grip is evenly ribbed.
I can’t tell from the pictures whether or not the mail goes in the business end of the 1911, but I am assuming it does.
I don’t know how much Steve’s welding would charge for one of those, but judging by the amazing detail it wouldn’t be cheap. I wonder if he could make me a Glock one? *Insert exploding mail jokes here*
I checked on google maps stree view hoping to find some more pictures of the mailbox, but sadly the picture was outdated.
Sure beats their old mailbox! Judging by the first 2 pictures the old mailbox is still there, but probably no longer in use.

You should have to pull the slide back to load the mail in the chamber.

That’s awesome. I can’t tell where the mail goes, but I think it would be cool if the hammer “cocked” back to reveal the opening for the mail.
Yea that would be great too! Judging by its orientation to the main street, it probably goes in the barrel end though.
Probably so. Maybe the hammer should cock back to indicate that there’s outgoing mail in there for the mailman to take with him!

Ha, what a surprise to see my pictures here. (That’s me hiding behind the gun in the first picture).
The mail does go in the end, though the final door setup hadn’t been finished at time of installation. Instead it has a plate bolted on, rendering this 1911 a fine work of gun art :)
