Chicago Gun Turn-In – May 8th 2010

Anyone who turns in an assault weapon, a gun or a BB gun at any of the 22 designated locations will receive a prepaid MasterCard — $100 for an assault weapon, $75 for a gun and $10 for a BB gun, an air gun or a replica gun. The guns will be destroyed.

Brutal!

Is there a law against face to face transfers of non NFA weapons in Chicago? :P  Someone could clean up if they offered people in line a bit more for their guns.

I had to chuckle at the part where mayor Daley talks about how last year 1900 guns where turned into the buy back program last year and he says “Just to think 1900 people could have been victims of gun violence.  That gun could last another 50-60 years.”

So 1900 guns turned in equals 1900 shootings that were prevented?  Maybe lots more incidents of gun violence were prevented, or maybe none… why bother making up such a statistic.

Also, why would the gun only last another 50-60 years?

Man that is some bull, what a rip off. I wonder what would happen if someone handed over a class III gun? Would that be considered illegal?

Wait, how cheap are replica toy guns? Someone could make a profit from that.

lets see if we can get 20 bucks for a 5 dollar airsoft gun. do you get more if its an assault rifle airsoft.

and i saw a picture from an old gun turn in were a dealer took in a bunch of the cheap sheet metal 22s and made 100 bucks a piece on them. the people there thought they had collected a bunch of machineguns and were super excited. these rifles didnt even have detachable mags and were spraypaint coated

Epic win SPC Fish. I bet the city still chalks that up as a success even though some people are blatantly pulling profitable funny stunts like that.

  2. no way in hell i’m goint to trun in my firearm(s)

  3. So 1,900 guns turned in equals 1,900 defenseless victims?

Probably. Considering once again, criminals don’t obey the law…

  4. I should go to Chicago with a few hundred bucks. I’m sure someone desperate enough to sell any AR or AK for 100 bucks, would definitely love to get 200 dollars for it.

Heh yea I wonder if they are on the lookout for stuff like that in the lines. I don’t see why it would be illegal unless FTF transfers are not legal there.

If this happened in my town I would turn all the broken airsoft guns in my closet into $70

  7. […] annihilated last years total of 1900 guns, which mayor Daley mentioned in his ABC interview a couple of days […]

  8. He needs to realize this is a culture issue, not a tool issue. Ban rap music, drugs (oh wait), etc.

Unfortunately its a minority issue, but liberals will never admit this.
