CQB Handgun Battle Training – Gracie Jujitsu Derp

Even in theory this looks like complete LSHD shit to me.  What do I know though?

Why does the instructor have his finger on the trigger a lot of the time?  Quite unprofessional.

My thoughts:

1:23 – “If I pulled the trigger the firearm probably malfunctioned” – UHHHHH no, it would have fired… it just wouldn’t have chambered another round or ejected that spent casing.

2:18 – “I cover the weapon… Ok? I cover my own weapon” – Hmmm I’ll pass on that advice bro. LOL

2:33 – Shooting while holding your own slide ON PURPOSE… oh lawd. *face palm*

4:47 – So this instructor is so professional he can’t even tell the difference between 9mm and .40?  I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and pretend that was just to fill otherwise dead air in the video at that point, and let the viewers know what caliber at the same time.

5:08 – Man… so much can go wrong when you’re setting up this DERP grip.  First of all if your finger is out of the trigger guard (where it should be) you now officially wrapped your other hand around it… keeping it from going in the trigger guard when you WANT to fire.  So you loosen the grip when you want to put your finger in?  Plus you have to worry about the meat on your palm not hanging over the front at all in the heat of the moment.

At certain points in the video I lost track of whether this guy was trying to sell me a used car, or a handgun CQB technique.

Gracie-Survival-Tactics-Jujitsu-HandgunWhen is this guy going to come out with a two gripped handgun?  Seems like the next logical step considering this method is apparently the best.

Gracie Survival Tactics is the place you can train if you like the idea of this.

Thoughts?  Would try in your own operations?

  1. Thought I was one of the MMA sites I read for a second…

As for the 9/40 thing, he probably knows enough about guns to shoot them…but he knows more about making someone cry like a girl when he has a hold of your limbs LOL

And he’s fortunate enough to train(if not be dating) a super hot WWE Diva wrestler.

*sigh* just another Gracie trying to make money. Don’t get me wrong, I have some respect for them as a purple belt, but the younger Gracie’s try too hard.

This guy just tries to re-package and mass market his family’s/father’s Jiu Jitsu school.

  3. Lay off the meth

  4. Rener isn’t nearly as well-versed in firearms as he is in hand-to-hand combat, but this technique is pretty solid to the person who knows a little bit about both and how they relate.

  5. Yeah . . . seems like someone trying to come up with something innovative and as a result coming up with something stupid. To complicated, you might have your hand over the muzzle – the simple answer lower center of gravity maintain grip, pull down and back and shoot him. And have SA and don’t have the gun so far out. I sort of like the using your shin and weight idea, but it’s got the issue that it draws you in very close to him. Also what if you’re short, he’s big. and he pulls the gun UP. Simple is better.

  6. Any options a cop has from being one of thousands a year that get their service pistol stripped from them and shot with it is fine by me. Rob Pincus has integrated a lot of grappling and drawing techniques any cop could find useful.

    1. Well, getting shot doesn’t mean getting killed, “professor.” The fbi uniform crime report says 54,774 assaulted in 2011. How many with their own weapons doesn’t specify. And it certainly doesn’t report how many officers have had attempts to be disarmed and managed to retain their weapon.

  7. Rener Gracie is a very well known name in BJJ circles and teaches many great things when it comes to combatives. He may come off as to enthusiastic as a salesmen, but he believes in the cause and it’s a good one.

His firearm stuff may be a little weird to you, but it’s pretty standard to see stuff like this these days.

  8. I think all these handgun retention skills are bs. If a guy grabs your gun, just stick your thumb in his eye socket with your other hand!!! Then bash his head against something idk

    1. no, just stick your finger in the barrel. Bugs Bunny taught me that.

      1. Yeah you’re right, eye gouging is probably to simple for operators in operations ;)

I’d have to try it out to see how it feels. One foot on the ground during a hands on fight is not good. My training is to force the weapon into them and bear them to the ground under the weight of my body and gear but that’s for rifles and Cops don’t wear SAPI plates. Another tool for the tool box but it’s for a very specific situation and one that he shouldn’t have gotten into in the first place.

  10. His firearms knowledge, skill, and handling ability are not stellar. We can all agree on that. However, the theory of using two hands on the weapon in that way isn’t ideal, it could very well work to save your life. What he has done is scale down rifle/bayonet CQB and uses the line created from elbow to elbow in place of a rifle. I believe his two handed technique of retention would increase the likelihood of you keeping possession of the weapon, proportionally to the chances of you having an ND, by allowing you to have more purchase on the weapon than the BG and allowing you to control the beaver tail which acts as the fulcrum in pistol disarms. The rules you learn at your non operator CWL class, basic small arms military training, and basic DTac LE academies are out the window in a full blown fight for your life. To be truly ready for something like that to happen and to confidently succeed would take many many rounds of Dieter Hooded Box drill type exercises. These condition black, fight or flight, sympathetic nervous system responses that happen in mere seconds cannot be governed by any set strict escalation of force continuum or traditional doctrine if this then that because we could what if anything to death.

If you think that’s bad, wait until someone uses the ballchinian triangle on you.

  12. Pfffff, you’re not firing while holding the “barrel”. You’re holding the “slide”.
That’s the upper part that moves when you fire a “bullet” from the “clip” in your pistol.

    HA HA HA

  13. I like it when he says “So my friends…”

I had a manager (Ukrainian) who used to call you “my friend” just before shtf. You could know it was gonna hit sooooo hard !!

  14. Regarding your comment on 1:23, That’s one of the definitions of a malfunction WRT firearms. So he’s correct to say that his firearm would have malfunctioned.

  15. Terrible trigger discipline.

  16. Why not just take the gun out of the fight and chuck it as far as you can. Then you can go all BJJ if you want. OR, once the perp, with the overt act of grabbing the gun, creates the ability and opportunity to cause serious bodily injury, the officer could continue firing until the threat has ended.

Stay away from this guy. Don’t listen. He strategies about getting the money from your pocket by selling you your own doo-shit and calling it gracie cream…it smells like hard work. He’ll treat you like a cow, rape you like a sheep, and let his bro (Ryron) get some from behind. What mofo asshoes.
