Quick, what does “DERP” translate to in Italian?
I hope they make body armor as good as they make pizza and desserts. Wow what a boss… I’m so impressed. *eye roll* I said it once, and i’ll say it again… stuff like this is just is not necessary. I’d much rather see some scientific data than some derp.
I can’t wait until one or more of you guys says “Why does it matter that the body armor is Italian?… very petty Mike. If they were testing American body armor like this I bet you wouldn’t make fun of the videos. Oh yea, and the guy testing the body armor is gay, so that makes you even more of an asshole.” hahah I still think it’s hilarious a handful of you guys got pissed off that I referred to Rachel Maddow as “he” again yesterday. If you haven’t figured it out already, I use this blog primarily to poke fun at things I find humor in.
Thoughts?

No idea if these guys do it for the same reason or for the sale, but back in the day there was an American that shot himself in every new vest he made. His reasoning was that if he wouldn’t trust his own life with it, he isn’t going to sell it to people whose lives depend on it. Dangerous for sure, but makes sense to me. Don’t know if the guy or his armor is still around – it’s been quite a long time ago.
*new model…sending every vest out “used” probably wouldn’t be the best plan :-)
I think that was the owner of Second chance body armor. I know he had a bunch of promotional videos(VHS) years and years ago showing himself being shot with a .357 and immediately shooting a selection of targets.
The fact that he’s Italian is a reason in itself to make fun of him…
Seriously, I guess this is a marketing process, and a quite efficient one, even if totally dumb…
You know now why they lost the war…
The guy thinks the plate is an extension of his penis. “Again!”
The shooters have a case of the jitters and can’t keep their booger hooks off the trigger. It really is just a matter of time.
if anything this would turn me off from buying one of their vests…..because it is apparent to me that they do not fully grasp the engineering behind their products.
they obviously feel their products are 100% bullet-PROOF, otherwise why the hell would they test it on themselves.
as we all know, nothing is perfect, and at best you are going to get Bullet-RESISTANT. that implies the chance of failure, a concept any engineer would fully understand, and would never willingly test on themselves.
to me, this is not better than some bubba sewing together some kevlar on his kitchen table and selling them as bullet proof vests at a gun show.
Or maybe he knows the point of failure of his product? I agree with the principles behind what you say but IMHO this demonstrates perfectly that it is resistant to a high degree :p
I really se no problem with him testing the armor on himself, like Dilhack said If you cant trust your own life on it why should the guy paying 500 bucks do it?
I agree! Let the guy do what he wants. If he wants to get shot in the chest who am I to try to stop him. I’m impressed at his confidence and composure. I’d need bulletproof, shit resistant diapers.
Doesn’t matter how good the vest is when the shooter keeps sweeping his head as he raises and lowers the rifle on target.
I just bought two.
yeah the danger in this video is the shooter trying to get the gun on target. I watched him point that gun at his head and dick more than anything else. one time i heard the safety catch go off then a facial muzzle sweep. lol. im glad mike uses the site to make fun of stuff, it always makes me laugh and i have never be offended.
Think how much his sales would improve if he made them more “tactical” and less day-glo. Just a thought.
This can’t be for real. Cause EVERYONE know that if you get shot you will fly 15 feet back in to the wall. It happens all the time in the movies/TV and this guy did not fly back in to the wall….. FAKE! :-)
looks great, i agree the real person testing isnt nessecary, but looks effective, but id like to see weight, and caliber stoppage etc.
I agree with Larry. Marketing demos may catch my eye, but would like to see actual data before I’m really impressed.
Even still, I’m sure wearing one of those is many times better than just a regular jacket for bullet or knife stoppage.
Standing in front of a gun and letting someone shoot you is very dumb and stupidly dangerous. Period.
BUT…
Like others have said, you’re supposed to be able to trust this product with your life. Do you take the manufacturer’s word for it (that this is a product that you can trust your life on) when it comes to guns, defensive ammo, magazines or anything else? Most people do not. They extensively test their guns, ammo, mags, and equipment to ensure that it’s not going to fail on them when they need it most. Why should body armor or ballistic glass be any different?
Granted, you can test body armor on a dummy, but the fact that the manufacturer is willing to stake his life on the quality of his product does send a powerful message. Demonstrations like this were crucial to widespread police adoption of lightweight ballistic vests.
Derpé — There’s your Italian :-P
nice!
“a handful of you guys got pissed off that I referred to Rachel Maddow as “he” again yesterday.”
Wait…Maddow’s a chick?
He can’t be…can he? She? Whatever?
I thought it was Olberwomann in a wig, trying to pretend that there are more hosts on MSNBC.
While I would never do this… I respect the hell outta these guy. Willing to stand behind their product… literally. Props!
Ah you beat me to it!
Jeeze Mike, you used up all the GOOD comments…………..
ARRIVEDERPI!!! LOL
