A great story about how fellow gun blogger Natalie Foster got into guns.
I’ve been following her blog for a while now, and I really enjoy it. And yes, I can still pee standing up.
Make sure you check her out over at GirlsGuideToGuns.com
On a related note, I’ve noticed a significant increase in the number of women following my blog on facebook! That’s good to see, as for quite a while after I started that page it was primarily a sausage fest.

It (the video) would have been more fun if she was naked! Yak-yak-yak. When women start talking you can’t understand what the hell they are saying?
Are you sure you don’t sit down when you piss (oops, pee)?
I hope some women find this encouraging and take up shooting. Personally I found her obnoxious.
Well then, I guess the good news is that you never have to watch it again.
And if by ‘obnoxious’ you mean ‘awesome,’ then yes. I totally agree.
Natalie, put on your thick skin. I like the concept and see the niche. No doubt a lot of women who would be otherwise intimidated by shooting will be empowered and supported by your site. Kudos. Just bear in mind that not everyone is going to adore you for being you.
Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate the repost. And sheesh! See why we need a girl’s-only gun blog? Thanks for backing me up. The affection is mutual. :)
If anyone ever wonders why it is so hard to get women interested in guns and shooting, all you have to do is read the comments from triplek and 032125.
And Natalie, you ARE awesome! Women appreciate you creating a site where we can learn about shooting without having to put up with comments like that. Thank you!
Please don’t connect my post to triplek’s statement; his (hers?) was a statement of sexism; mine was simply a personality conflict. Not everybody has to like everyone all of the time.
Your comment may not have been sexist like triplek’s, but you made a judgement about someone based on a 2 minute video. Apparently something about the way she looked or the way she spoke caused you to come to the conclusion that she is “obnoxious.” Women worry about being judged based on their looks, the clothes they wear, how they speak, and what they say when they go to the range. People like you, who make quick judgments and then feel the need to tell the world about them, are a major reason for this.
Lisa you seem to be coming to the discussion pre-loaded with some insecurity issues. I don’t know who appointed you guard dog for Natalie, but anyone who puts themselves out on the internet will be roundly criticized. Period. You could make a video of yourself saving babies from sharks, and somewhere in the legion of anonymous there will be a baby hating shark lover who will criticize you.
To quote myself, “Personally I found her obnoxious.” No need for hysterics or sweeping generalization; she’s just too perky for me. It didn’t take 2 minutes either, it took 30 seconds. You took even less time. Congrats.
Lisa- you’re adorable. Thanks for sticking up for me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I suppose. Sometimes you’ve just gotta ignore them. And you’re exactly right – firearms are foreign to most women, so there are plenty of insecurities walking in to it. The whole thing can be pretty darn scary. Especially if you have to deal with random jerkface guys who are insensitive about it. All too often when a guy makes a snarky, derogatory or sexist remark, a woman will be immediately turned off by firearms. She’ll walk away altogether and she’ll associate that negativity with guns for the rest of her life. Breaks my heart! The good news is, most guys aren’t like that. And if they are- send me their phone number. I’ll set ’em straight. ;)
I’m proud to have a place at Girl’s Guide where chicks can ask questions and learn about guns. We leave all the meanies out of the equation. You and I are on the same page, sister. Glad we could connect. Are you on our fb page? Would love to hear about your firearms story!
