How come I was not aware of this earlier? Oh right… I was 3 years old when the movie came out.
The movie is called Top Secret!, and it stars Val Kilmer. It has 7/10 stars on IMDB and it actually sounds pretty funny… I might check it out.
Hopefully no one thinks handling guns like they do in movies like this is actually acceptable. :P

If you’re a fan of the old “Airplane” movies, you’ll get a kick out of Top Secret. Same group, same writers, but made before their movies devolved into just taping an hour and a half of Leslie Neilsen stumbling around the set and breaking things.
Good sight gags, great lines, and like ‘Airplane’, you have to watch it more than once to catch all the subtle gags and quips. And a working knowledge of old WW2 movies can’t hurt- there’s homages to ‘The Great Escape’, ‘The Dirty Dozen’, and probably ‘Hogan’s Heroes’.
As for gun handling… well, let’s just say you don’t watch a Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker WW2 spoof and expect accurate- or even safe- gun handling. The assault on (and later by) the Resistance basically pivots around the comical misuse of everything from Tommy guns to blackpowder cannons (the latter held and fired in much the same way that Rambo fired an M-60. :) )
Rent it. It’s worth it.
Doc.
Might have to check this movie out sometime, looks pretty funny.
But i want that woody wagon! That thing was nice!
Excellent movie!
“Our surgeons did what they could… but it took them two hours just to get the smile off his face!”
It is Attack of The Killer Tomatoes Part 1 and 2 “So bad it is funny as hell” type of movie.
Ingesting spirits is not only advisable but recommended.
Oh Wow! I just added that to my wish list. So silly!
Gosh I think they spoofed EVERY late 70s early 80s movie in there. They spend about 10 minutes spoofing Blue Lagoon for cryin’ out loud.
Val Kilmer actually sang all his songs too. Talented dude who’s about 300lbs now :|
Not what I would call a “gun” movie. From my personal collection of movies from 1984 I’d go with Red Dawn. Or Buckaroo Banzai (yes more terrible muzzle control), another highly underrated cult classic. Or Terminator and that phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range that Arnie couldn’t seem to get from the LGS. Great year for guy movies.
A great movie. I rememeber watching it on Comedy Central growing up. You almost expect Leslie Nelson to walk on screen any moment. I found a combo DVD with it and Airplane in the bargin bin last year. SCORE!
Pay attention to the ‘Danish Bookstore’ scene – it’s shot in reverse. :)
“Excuse me! You dropped your fake doggy doo!”
“What fake doggy doo?”
