MSNBC on Concealed Carry

A very comprehensive and fair article on Concealed carry.

Some interesting graphs as well, showing the rise in states adopting “shall issue” permits and the fall in homicides over the same time period.

Also, make sure you hit up the poll – HERE

At my time of voting, pro-concealed carry was winning by a landslide (76.5%) with almost 50,000 votes.

If you are looking to read more on the topic, Concealed Carry By. Massad Ayoob will not disappoint.  For $16.50 you will definitely get your money’s worth whether you are new to carrying, or have been doing it for years.

  1. I went to Comicon last year in San Diego.

When I got back to South Carolina I actually felt safer when I caught a glimpse of a guy with an imprint of his pistol under his shirt.

I definitely know what you mean. It’s all fine and dandy being somewhere that no one is armed, UNTIL something goes down.

    2. Was it scary at Comic Con, not knowing who was packing level 5 wizardry? Worried that if the wrong guy got pissed off he’d run to his bedroom in his parents’ basement, grab one of his many samurai swords, and return to wreak havoc?

I’m sorry, I could resist. Seriously though, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if there were a greater percentage of law-abiding citizens in South Carolina who carry concealed weapons than there are in San Diego, and that should make people feel safer. I wouldn’t be surprised either if a higher percentage of the criminals in San Diego are armed compared to South Carolina. Either of those things alone should make you feel safer in South Carolina.

  2. Reading the comments from that poll from the people that said No make me feel good about how I was raised. There are some really uneducated people in this country.

Some of the comments are so ridiculous, it almost seems like the people who wrote them were just trolling for some pro-gun people to fly off the handle and berate them. Sadly, the people that write those comments probably actually do feel that way.

This one comment is just flat-out un-amusing.

“I expect increased toddler deaths, mistaken intruders, domestic murders, workplace, racist & paranoid shootings & police in greater danger”

If they had just looked around at the states that aren’t against the Constitution, they’d realise how unfounded their expectations are.

LOL yea that is one of the comments that I read and shook my head at.

  4. “Shotguns and hunting rifles, that’s it. Everything else should be illegal. Handguns serve only to shoot other people.”

FACT – No one has every been killed by a shotgun or hunting rifle, EVER.

And a lot of those comments are saying that the Police are there to protect us, so be sure to have the police on speed dial the next time you are mugged so they can get there after the fact while the mugger is already 40 miles away with your stuff.

There are two responses I would like to see us “law abiding citizens” do:
    1) Report ANY use of our firearm in self defense. Yes, this includes the guy who wets himself and runs off after meeting your personal bodyguards, Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson. There NEEDS to be a hard evidence paper trail of self defenses uses of firearms. Make it a point that you want the officer to mention in the report that you are a permit holder.

    2) to the trolls and anti-gun people who want to do away with concealed carry, I would like to see permit instructors invite these people to audit a class at no charge.
Most permit classes have a sit-down lecture component where laws and responsibilities are discussed. Exposure these laws and concepts of concealed carry may help change minds. Opponents may have no idea how seriously we take these things, and not as lightly as they may assume we do. They may simply not realize how much it all is to constantly think about.
We need to do everything to remove the emotional component to the argument, and nullify it with fact and knowledge. Once that is done, half of the ‘anti’ argument falls out from under itself.

I like your 2nd idea snoopy. #1 to me kind of goes along with the saying “Don’t invite the man into your life”.. meaning if there is no need to call the cops, then why bother.

  6. MSNBC follows up today: “22 Minutes to a Concealed Weapon License”

Maybe 22 mins to apply, but they don’t mention the two weeks of investigation to
verify the applicant’s years of law-abiding, responsible behavior, requisite for CCL issue.

    1. Ok, now that is a example of it being way to easy, I live in Texas which requires you to go through a class and has a shooting requirement. That is the way I think it should be not just fill out paper work and get it. As they say Everythings Bigger and Better in Texas.
