American Dad – Guns

I’m always down for some pro gun material in cartoons:

  1. I was always confused by this, as American Dad comes from the creators of Family Guy, which is usually full of Liberal ideas. I just assumed they were trying to portray Stan as a right wing gun nut extremist, thereby hinting at their real take on the issue.

    1. I think its partly their way to try and gain market share, while still insulting / making fun of everyone who is not as progressive as they are.

Sounds like an interesting strategy, one that I don’t doubt is effective.

  2. Oh man! Reminded me of this classic

American Dad is always portrayed as a mindless conservative, so the fact that he is spouting pro-gun cliches is supposed to discredit them.

Same as when Archie Bunker delivered his famous “would you feel better if [people killed by guns] had been pushed out of windows?” It 100% true and logical statement, yet a liberal finds it hilarious.

I once asked a TV producer who claimed there was no liberal bias in Hollywood to name five conservative fictional TV characters who were NOT portrayed as either villains or buffoons. He could respond with only one name: Homer Simpson. Not only is Homer an obvious buffoon, but has no categorizable politics. But this was his serious answer, as heaven is my witness.

(Actual possible answers include several characters from JAG and NCIS, libertarian Captain Mal of Firefly, and after that I’m out of ideas.)

That’s awesome, I love his response.
