A patent application from Apple, entitled “System and Method for Authentication Based on Particle Gun Emissions,” was filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office this week. It states that current DRM methods for authentication, but by their nature they can lack security.
Apple’s solution would employ a particle gun, which would send an emission with unique physical properties to a receiver which would be able to verify the authenticity. The receiver would then generate a second value, and compare it with the first.

Pretty interesting idea. For consumers though, it sounds expensive. Yea its no i1911 (pictured) but it will have to do.
On a similar note… this youtube parody video makes me cringe:

Pointing a gun at a camera or computer screen is one thing, but putting it against your head and putting the trigger is a whole other level of stupidity.

Not funny…like generally, not just the gun to the head part.
That was stupid. They went full retard. You never go full retard.
What the hell, Belesarius says that. ^ Where is this from.
Also on a more related note, I believe you meant to say pulling*
If you’re questioning my comment – the “You never go full retard” line is from Robert Downey Jr.’s character in the movie “Tropic Thunder.” I take it you haven’t seen it; it’s worth watching. He deserved the Oscar nomination he got for his part; it’s hilarious. In fact, just do a Google search for “you never go full retard,” or something to that effect. I’m sure you can find that particular clip pretty easily.
Tropic Thunder FTW! Pretty awesome how he was nominated for an Oscar for that. It was a shame he didn’t win. Although I suppose Heath Ledger did a pretty awesome job as the Joker.
This sounds like the typical Apple solution…high-tech, pretty, extraordinarily expensive, and no better than the normal way.
And then once Apple brings it to market, Acer, Dell, HP, etc.. will all be scrambling to come out with their own similar product.
The Anti-Gunner’s response to video: “Ha. Crazy guns, they should all be melted.”
The Gunnie’s response to video: “Gaaahh! NO! No pointy at head! No trigger, NO!! Please, allow me to educate you on proper gun safety and handling and why we never EVER do what you did, even for a lame (not-so)funny video. And do you realize the message you just put out there for all the monkey-see-monkey-do children out there? No! BAD! BAD BAD BAD! No cookie!”
hahaha pretty accurate I would say… although the anti-gunner’s response nees to be filled with more hysteria and irrational conclusions.
