Meh. Might be good, but I’m not feeling this trailer:
Based on the failed mission “Operation Red Wings” which tasked four members of SEAL Team 10 on June 28, 2005 to kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. They were quickly compromised and under attack, Marcus Luttrell being the only member to survive and evade capture.
Doesn’t look as high speed low drag as I thought it would, plus what an absolutely awful choice of music.
I’ll definitely see this movie sooner or later, but my initial impression isn’t great. This doesn’t change my opinion at all of course about Marcuss Luttrell though… he is a true badass. If Mark Walhberg can even portray half of his badassery the movie will be alright.
Thoughts?

is it just me or did i see corridor digital in that trailer
Operation Red Wings? What is this, some military-influenced porn with a really gross main “plot?”
thats what i thought too
I don’t trust anything Hollywood puts out about military ops, but I’ve heard Marcus was personally involved in this. I read the book when it first came out and always heard there was way too much story he didn’t include in the book. They’re saying some of that comes out in the movie. Also, they say Wahlberg doesn’t play Marcus so much as just put himself there.
Yeah, they’ll probably get my matinee money on this one.
Vigilant Sphincter Edition. LOL ;)
I read the book an though it was awesome. If this anything like that I’ll really appreciate it.
One thing the trailer makes clear is that .mil was entirely on board with production. Helos galore, etc.
That, and the fact that Luttrell is supposed to have had hand in it bode well. On the other hand, IMDB doesn’t list him as co-writer or advisor.
This reminds me of Bravo Two-Zero.
Did you ever read that book Endo Mike? Similar incident, but in Iraq pre Invasion during the first gulf war, and it was British SAS.
I do recommend it, but it will flog your soul.
****SPOILER****
The movie Bravo Two-Zero was solid. Crazy part was Sean Bean doesn’t die..
Sean Bean didn’t get ambushed with a coffee cup in B20 but he pulled a Shawshank.
Never heard of it! I’ll have to check it out though thanks.
As a Briton, its brilliant, but the book “the one that got away” by Chris Ryan, the guy who walked out of Iraq is so much better. That and the book Sniper One, though it’s completely unrelated.
That Bravo Two Zero story, at least the Andy McNab book and movie with that title, are total B.S. There are even SAS members who basically stated that the Book/Movie storylines do not wash with official story given by McNab. In other words he made up big parts of the story to make himself look good/better. I believe he claims they killed hundreds of Iraqi soldiers as they were escaping (or some other unreal claim). Go ahead and read/Watch ‘Bravo Two-Zero,’ but also look into ‘The Real Bravo Two-Zero’ and ‘The One That Got Away.’ There is a lot of conflicting stories with regard to the incident.
Bravo Two Zero and The One That Got Away go in wildly different directions, but so do Andy McNab and Chris Ryans reports on the incident. The only thing that rings true is the old adage “What he said, what she said and what really happened”.
That being said, the truth is that the mission was thoroughly screwed. Chris Ryan completed the longest escape and evade on foot in history after getting separated from the team. McNab and the remaining survivors had to tough it out in captivity. Whether or not they broke in interrogation is not that important to me. Everyone breaks, it’s just a matter of time and method.
When it comes to their fiction books. I like Ryan more than McNab. Both are fairly excellent though.
Bear Grylls missed a tremendous troll opportunity by not being in B20.
I think it can work. But I wait for everything to come to DVD. And then debate to pay the $20 or wait for it to drop a few months later. I think it will be a few months later.
Call me jaded, but I think 90% of these military diaries, turned novel- turned Hollywood blockbuster, are a load of self glorifying B.S. or ghost written pro-military propaganda. I won’t mention any specific names, so no one gets all butt-hurt. With a little research you can figure it out.
Sad thing is, the most realistic Marky Mark movie was “Shooter”. I’m speaking of the plot, not the fantasy action sequences.
Read the book and loved it. I’ll see the movie when it comes out on Netflix or something.
