Great video. As you probably know I support unrestricted carry everywhere, whether it be concealed or open. It’s pretty easy to defend the fact that a “gun free zone” for the safety of the public is absolutely ridiculous, considering laws mean nothing to criminals.
I could be wrong, but I’m sure most of you guys would agree with me on this topic.

This is an excellent video, and does a really great job of attempting to educate in a neutral way (as opposed to so much of the “if you don’t agree w/ me you’re bad” political posturing that goes on these days)
Hey good job GVSU.
As a side note Michigan State 2hrs down the road allows CCW on campus (~45,000 students). One other community college allows this too in Michigan. Hopefully GVSU may be next.
I think Pete is right about MSU, except that CCW is still banned in dormitories and classrooms. At MSU you can carry on campus, but not inside the majority of the buildings, which are the places that you really need them anyway. Hopefully the state legislature will exempt campuses the CCW restrictions and hopefully the board here at GVSU agrees.
I dunno, I think I would still try to sneak in one. If I killed the guy on the rampage, would I be considered a hero if guns were outlawed?
Only the people with common sense would consider you a hero. The others would just ignore that a gun actually saved lives.
My campus had a no guns on campus policy. It was in a good neighborhood but only a few blocks from a very bad neighborhood. The campus tried all that it could to insulate you from that bad neighborhood but I commuted and the parking situation was crap so if you didn’t have classes until later in the day you ended up parking in or near enough to the bad neighborhood. In my last semester there I did work study as a lab monitor and I wouldn’t get out until midnight and because I got to school late in the day I’d be facing a long walk at night alone to get to my car. So despite it being against policy you better damn believe that I carried anyway.
Concealed means concealed. You’d have lawyers chomping at the bit to represent you if you had to defend yourself and they tried to reprimand you for it…
I think the end has the best message:
Gun free campuses – because they made Virginia Tech so safe
Although there is ONE thing that I would worry about, which is negligent discharges in college…. binge drinking and firearms doesn’t seem like a good idea, but then again, reinforcement of safe firearms handling and education should clear that problem up
Excellent video. So happy to hear University/college teachers stating such plain facts. Whether it be in a restaurant, at a school, or at a Walmart, the risks are all basically low, but it still happens. There’s no better target than a college campus because only the security officials will be armed (if even them!).
