Generally speaking specialized words are designed to separate those familiar with them with those not within a specific context. It gives those with an understanding of the specific nomenclature an opportunity to show that they have put in their time to understand the specifics entailed when referencing the advanced dialogue. A bit like an anti-KISS concept. And it is hardly new or specific to the firearms world. Having said that I tend to prefer simple words to understand simple things but as the complexity increases the words tend to follow suit.

Occam’s razor- The principle states that among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected. Other, more complicated solutions may ultimately prove correct, but—in the absence of certainty—the fewer assumptions that are made, the better.
Just like Yeager said.
