Steampunk AR-15

Hey Steampunk nerds… heads up:

steampunk-ar15

Caleb from Gun Nuts has his tactical panties in a bunch about it…. I on the other hand think it’s pretty cool.  By no means would I ever want to own this think, but if I saw someone with it at the range I’d definitely want to talk to them and take another look.  Well… depends on how invested in the whole Steampunk life they are.  If the owner was wearing a copper monocole, wooden arm brace, steaming top hat with gears on it I’d probably just quietly snap a creepy smartphone pic then slink out.

Bonus points for the retro loudener and gas pressure gauges.  That extra tank to adjust gas pressure is v crucial too.

UPDATE: A thread about the build on AR15.com

Thoughts?  Would operate with?

  1. I think it’s pretty cool… on an airsoft replica.

Just add some retro sight on it. Something DIY made from this:

Just add a leather cheek rest and you are set.

I don’t understand why anyone would get mad about this. If you want to build a steampunk/borderlands gun out of a no name AR, be my guest. It’s not like ARs are rare or particularly valuable.

That is what you call Click-bait. Caleb just wanted to be provocative to drive up page visits, looks like it worked :-)

    He does that a lot.

Regardless, I thought it was worth a post. If he makes an extra $3 today I hope he buys a coffee and thinks of me haha.

      1. He’s just living up to his rat fink reputation. Easier to be controversial than provide content these days……

  8. Great fun. Love it.

I like it! Personally I think we should have more niche “vintage surplus” style small arms to choose from on the market.

      Assault-Madsen LMG anyone?

Despite what they titled the post, I wouldn’t really call that “Steampunk”. Cool looking rifle though!

        1. It’s just that a side-swinging breech block is so late 19th century…it seems more authentically steampunk. The featured AR, on the other hand, would fit right into the gaming world of Metro 2033.

  10. Caleb is probably, “that one guy,” everyone stopped inviting to the movies because he won’t shut the hell up about realism.

Awesome. The only thing missing is a chest rig made of leather, canvas, and tweed.

Haha Yea tweed is crucial for sure.

  14. What next, han solo blaster… yes, I know it’s been done, no need to post links.

Poor Caleb wasn’t loved as a child.. consequentially, he writes like he’s got a stick up his ass. I don’t believe he will ever learn to lighten up.

I actually want to do something like this now. Maybe not with the non-functional features, but make an AR that looks like it was invented in 1902.

Come ot think of it an AK might dress up better. Yes, 1905 AK pistol… with drum.. and arm brace.
Hey do i have to get ATF approval for an arm brace if it’s of my own manufacture?
