NOIR – S01E02

And you thought episode 1 was over your head, parts of this even go over my head:

1:30 – Custom colored guns from the factory? Meh that would just turn into “Fender Custom Shop” if you’re into guitars… making the gun 300% more expensive. People are just going to get it done at the regular cheaper places anyway unless you have nothing better to do with your money and really don’t care about the price.

4:11 – Regarding the “2grand rifle in a cardboard box” comment. I for one am not interested in paying more so some company can fancy-up their packaging then tack that onto the price. If gun companies were smart they would do that anyway, but I definitely wouldn’t ask for it. Boutique style gun stores if anything should be stepping up their game with things like this.

7:21 – LOL the “political plantation”

10:26 – Amy says most gun owners are independent, adventurous and athletic. ROFL good one! Two episodes in I’m starting to think she is the one whos an NRA manufactured character, because Colion Noir definitely isn’t.

14:00 – Bespoke suits? Alright even this section is way over my head and out of my realm of interest. Frankly I hate going into stores where “Personal Shoppers” proceed to fawn all over me and offer to run and get me sizes and colors etc.. of things I’m looking at, then try and force conversation to get to know me and pressure me into a sale. I’m sure it works on most people, and forces them into buying… but for a lot of us it’s just one more reason to shop on the internet.

17:50 – Tom Ford collabs? Neiman Marcus edition guns? Jesus… again why would I want to pay more for any of that? Noir is losing me on some of these segments. I didn’t think fresh-out-the-gate lawyers were instant multi-millionaires, but maybe he is… or maybe he just makes what I’d call “interesting decisions” with the disposable income he has. Hell, maybe I’m the one that’s out of touch with gun owners, and most are actually looking for ways to blow money on a “something unique that everyone else has”? *cough* Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer, Fender Custom Shop etc.. *cough*

MrColionNoir-Defend-Freedom-Tshirt-ENDOI think the best part about this show is how much it’s pissing people off… even apparently myself when it comes to some of the things he says haha.

Thoughts?

I think you found their secret demo: young gun owners looking for ways to blow money on a “something unique that everyone else has”

Short skirt/long jackets drink starbucks, not dunkin, anyways…

You’re talking about gun owners here, and you know as well as I do that some of them fall quite solidly into the ‘more money than sense’ category, easily enough to sustain a business on. (Just look at ex: ANYONE who shows up at Red Jacket)

I don’t know much about the custom gun industry as a whole beyond red jacket, but I’d be willing to bet most of Red Jacket’s business comes from the fact people take their gun there because they are “famous”… even if they do mainly “neva bin donE beFo” derp work.

The personalized experience buying a gun is already around, and there’s a sliding scale of services and options for middle of the road slobs like me. Any manufacturer that has a custom shop will usually work with you to get the options and fine details you want.

Yeah… I am with you on this one, Endo Mike.

Gun ownership is a hobby and/or a lifestyle. In any hobby/lifestyle you have a large cross section of people.

Amy’s comment here is as retarded as all the anti gunners claiming all gun owners are redneck woman beaters with mullets.

Omggggggggg this is terrible. I’ve loved guns my whole life, but only recently became an owner and began scrounging the net for awesome gun related content. One of the earliest people I became a fan of was Mr. Noir, but this show has me losing my interest in following him as quickly as I initially began following his content.

I’m just happy that I’ve found this site, a pro-gun yet not blindly right wing, where other people get how lame this kind of shit is without immediately eating it up because it’s tied to the NRA.

    Bleh, this show is filth.

  6. I agree, I am not a big fan of fancy gun packaging.

I buy a product, when I get home the box goes in the trash after 30 days.

The only exception are the XDM cases, as if you either refoam it, or buy two and uses the pistol half of the foam in the other box. The size ratio is quite good when you put two guns in it.

  7. Ok finished the video. He has obviously never ordered a custom gun in person.

Sure it isn’t as nice looking sitting on a stool in a gunsmith’s work shop. But when you get down to the nuts and bolts out pops either pictures, or guns with various options being discussed.

  8. Although I agree that the show is “awkward” to watch at times, I get what he’s trying to do here. He is trying to do a gun show for the urban enthusiast who’s a bit hipster, likes fashion and wants firearms and shopping for firearms to have more of an “Apple” experience.

I’ve said for the longest time now that I’d kill for an “Apple store” of gun stores where the hunters camo and taxidermy is no where to be seen and the music selection is more indie rock than country. I’m probably the type of demographic he’s catering to. Young to middle aged, no kids, appreciates great design, would pay extra for a better experience, whether it’s in store or in box / container.

I do think that the show is trying too hard though. And I think that this may be a case of being ahead of his time by a few years.

    1. You can never have an Apple Store of gun stores.

As Apple has the advantage, they provide very little margin for third party resellers to sell at so there is little mark down, so the Apple Store never has any real competition. And I am willing to bet that the mark up at the Apple store is close to 50% since they don’t have to deal with a middle man.

Firearms typically have a 30% mark up if sold at MSRP. But they rarely sell for MSRP, I can go to Bud’s Gun Shop and buy any gun for cheaper than the useless “Guntry” Clubs.

      1. Having an Apple Store of gun stores is about the customer and shopping experience. You can even call it the “Target” of gun store… whatever. Having a better designed store that is bright and open and not in a bricked in cell block of a building. It means having friendlier staff that isn’t full of DERP or gives you the pretentious look of disapproval if you seem new. It means getting guns out of the locked cages and cabinets and having safe / disabled versions out in the open for people to freely handle and manipulate.

And if you think this can’t exist, there’s one like this that is going to be opening in Oklahoma City, complete with 100 yard climate controlled and ventillated indoor range, VIP lounge area up top with a full service bar serving whiskey and scotch and restaurant.

Doesn’t mean every store has to be like this with a VIP area, but most gunshops I go to look like dungeons and aren’t very inviting and staff not very helpful. Just having a brighter and more open layout would do wonders for most gunshops. There’s a huge demographic of people who would love to shop at a “Target” or “Apple Store” of gun stores.

        1. My LGS is like that. East Orange Shooting Sports in Orlando. Well lit industrial building with pistol range and the only camo is on the guns that come factory with it. Knowledgeable staff, very clean space, and I’ve never sent someone there and had them come away unsatisfied.

Must. Contain. 13 year old. Maturity level.

  10. I dig Colion. I liked the first episode alot, but this ep was kinda wack. The side chick is becoming very annoying very quick…and yes, she does seem manufactured. Does Colion really need a woman as co-host to boost viewership? As far as packaging, it doesn’t have to be fancy, just fuctional. A nice Larue covert bag comes to mind.

Just because you think it’s dumb to pay all that money for something an 870 can do just fine, don’t hate those that value quality and beauty. I hit both ends, I use a Glock and a frankenstein AR in 3-Gun (I’m old and slow but enjoy the competition). The Glock replaced a custom STI that’s on loan to a new shooter. Not afraid to thow my $2000 Benelli in a dump barrel. At the same time I’ve been spending money on a Fausti sxs 28 ga. Bought the gun, bought a gorgeous piece of wood a couple of years later, now it’s at a stockmaker to have a new stock made. Agree, Noir is for a different audience, probably doing a great job of reaching them. I’m not his demographic, been shooting for 40 years, old and out of shape, but I appreciate what he’s doing.
