Rather have it and not need it?:
If this is what the world is coming to, where people are playing sports with concealed firearms that’s pretty sad. Sure some squirrelly little psychopath who was picked on by hockey players his whole life could one day kick the door open on an arena and start hosing players down as an act of revenge… but really? Guns ON the ice? I’m sure at any given time plenty of spectators in the bleachers are armed. Sports are supposed to be competitive and fun. You shouldn’t have to wonder if the guy you body check into the boards is going to get butthurt and in a fit of rage / embarrassment, pull the handgun out of his uniform and shoot you ;). To top it off… having a chunk of heavy steel in your waistband when you’re hitting guys and guys are hitting you doesn’t really sound too comfortable or safe for anyone involved.
I can see the comments now – “FUCK YOU MIKE YOU PIECE OF SHIT FAIR WEATHER 2ND AMENDMENT SUPPORTER! I’ll wear an AK and an AR on my back when I play any type of organized sports because it’s maH right. ‘MERICA!”
The video does seem fake to me though. I can’t see what the guy is doing with his hands, but the drop seems staged. Additionally I question why he has a GoPro camera on, even though people seem to wear those now to do even the most mundane tasks.
Thoughts?

Ugh. Yeah, I carry almost 100% of the time and obviously support carry rights. But we gotta use some common sense. Contact sports are probably one of those places I shouldn’t carry, huh? I’d say if this is real he learned his lesson.
But on the other hand, FUCK YOU MIKE YOU PIECE OF SHIT FAIR WEATHER 2ND AMENDMENT SUPPORTER! I’ll wear an AK and an AR on my back when I play any type of organized sports because it’s maH right. ’MERICA!
haha thanks for that.
Honestly? I’m fine with it. I know a lot of very competitive types that can deal with their emotions. Saying someone shouldn’t carry because they’d pull it out in a fit of rage on the rink sounds awfully close to anti-carry types that’d say the streets would turn into the wild west when there’s a car accident.
I’d give someone shit for not retaining it before I gave them shit for carrying in a situation like this.
I added a ;) so people wouldn’t misconstrue the sarcasm. It’s more for the physical safety and respect of other players in my opinion; same reason players don’t (or shouldn’t) wear wrist watches.
Most likely he didn’t want to leave it in the locker room or his car and I can’t blame him for that. He should have had better control of it in any case.
Totally agree regarding the “can’t control emotions” issue. That’s not an issue for me. I’m strictly saying that I think it’s a bad idea because it wasn’t retained well, and due to the impact nature of this sport, may be hard to retain well. But if someone can secure it on their person well enough, I suppose it would be fine.
This takes derp of the month, and it has only just started.
Thumb break holster could have prevented this.
I can’t imagine this being real. Seems staged to me.
There’s a lot to say about this video. It has the good, the bad, and the full retard all in one minute and 6 seconds. Lets address this in chronographical order.
Player drops his piece on the ice. How was this being concealed is my biggest question. A holster with some kind of secure retention should have been used. He probably never would’ve dropped it.
Player picks up gun with hockey glove on and starts skating. Instant cringe, not sure what kind of grip you can get on the gun with hockey gloves after it has skipped across the ice. It seems prone to slip from the hand again. Good thing it didn’t.
Peanut gallery on the bench asks if thats a Sig. From the video it is hard to tell but I initially thought it was a Kahr. After a closer look at the trigger guard and the lack of stainless trigger it appears it could be a Sig. Props to the player on the bench for recognising that right away. Would not carry something as nice as a Sig in such a rough environment. Probably would pack something like a glock which I could afford to scratch, fuck up, soak with sweat, and drop.
“I can’t put in my mag”. Enough said.
“One check and kapow”. Words of wisdom from the man who immediately knew it was a Sig.
“Its not loaded though”. The demeanor he says that with makes it sound like he believes one could walk into an elementary school with an AR and completely rectify the situation by saying: its not loaded.
I have seen hockey players who are normal people off the ice go from cool to ready to kill someone in a split second on the ice, like Jekyll and Hyde. At least everyone was cool about it as far as I could see from the video. Just like a bar, probably not the best environment to carry in.
Looks a lot like a Stainless XDS but hard to tell with the 360p video.
Anyway, hockey already lets you carry a big stick and is prone to fighting….in front of the refs no less. Unless you’re billy blanks, looking to get into a last boy scout shooting rampage to appease a mob debt, there’s probably no point to pack heat on the ice.
I think he said, “I can’t put it in my bag.” As in he didn’t want to leave it in his bag which is understandable. Just leave it in the car at that point.
I’m up for seeing Hockey being added to holster stress tests now!
Mexican Carry gone wrong… And why, why, why would you pack an “unloaded” pistol during a hockey game? Not even a duffel/backpack he could keep it in on the bench? *sigh*
I once went to a shooting range and a hockey game broke out.
Meh
Uhhhh. Well ok then? Sounds like he didn’t want to carry it on the ice but couldn’t find a good place to stash it? I guess? I don’t know, if it’s a carry piece just leave it in the car…but then again since I’m pro-2nd I say we must all be allowed to carry on the ice. LOL And next up we’ll see this go to all sports. 50 yard dash? Football? Highjump? Better have a good holster hehe
Mike, I agree with you on the staged part, I mean who would record themselves being an idiot and then actually post that for the world to see.
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
Welp, I had just added this site to my bookmarks, but now it’s getting deleted. We’re our own worst enemies…
The weight of all that sand in your vagina must be quite a burden on your back.
Don’t worry, they can fix that now:

Rec league hockey locker rooms are PRIME targets for thieves.
Usually played later in the day, no one milling around, skeleton crew.
No spouse/family/friends are in the stands that could hold your stuff.
The locker rooms don’t get locked, don’t have locks, or are accessible through a shared bathroom/shower to a room that isn’t locked or is full of guys that just got off the ice.
It’s not uncommon for someone to get a valuables bag together for the bench, but I’ve heard of that being taken before.
Add to that you’re usually playing at midnight on a weekday. Your car is a 1/4mile away and almost as likely to be broken in to.
I could see unloading the gun and keeping it on you, but I agree you gotta have some sort of retention.
Now, what if the NYPD had their concealed-firearms during the fracas with FDNY? THAT would have been a better video..
