Who Needs A Money Tree When You Can Grow Silver On .223?

Taofledermaus grows silver crystals on a .223 Rem cartridge like a boss:

jackie-chan-mind-blownBorrow silver nitrate from someone, throw thousands of your .223 brass into the silver nitrate solution, scrape silver crystals off and…. profit?

Science.  I’m trying to hold some Platinum Nitrate.  I’ve been dreamin’ too long, too long, too long. I don’t like to dream about gettin’ paid.

Thoughts?

  1. uhm, there is a little less magical reason that this happens…read on if you’d like to know more.

the silver was already there, just dissolved in the acid. When the brass is exposed to the acid it takes the place of the silver in solution. The brass “donates” electrons to the silver, allowing the silver to solidify and causing the brass to dissolve. You’re just trading one metal for another, pretty basic chemistry…

When you buy silver nitrate you are paying for the silver, so you’re really not getting anything for free!

Reminds me of Isaac Newton’s attempts to turn lead into gold only with greater success rates. LOL
