Black and pro gun creates a stir now… imagine what it did back then:
Sammy Davis Jr. sure knew how to dress. I’m not so sure about that low scoop looking vest, but I’m sure if I paid more attention all the hipsters are wearing them now. His does look like the holsters are attached, so that definitely ups the cool factor. The skinny tie is on point as well.
Jeff Cooper would have told Sammy not to point his gun at anything he didn’t want to destroy… Sammy obviously meant to destroy everything so we can forget the rest of the rules. I sure hope they were able to film that all in one take, because it looks like a hell of a mess to clean up at the end.
Notice how at 1:00 Sammy name dropped the “.45 caliber” round? Yea he didn’t mess with 9mm fanboys.
I assumed in the heading that Sammy Davis Jr. was pro gun, but who knows… he was an actor so that enthusiasm all could have been faked.
Thoughts?

Sammy was well known as a quick draw guy. He was on the Rifleman, and also in a few other cowboy things. Jerry Lewis too.
+10 to this video.

LOL.
Love it. And yes, Sammy Davis, Jr. was an authentic gun guy. Wikipedia says: “Davis was an enthusiastic shooter and gun owner. He participated in fast-draw competitions—Johnny Cash recalled that Sammy was said to be capable of drawing and firing a Colt Single Action Army revolver in less than a quarter of a second. Davis was skilled at fast and fancy gunspinning, and appeared on TV variety shows showing off this skill.”
I counted 29 shots out of two revolvers without a single reload. That’s impressive.
I want one of those magical guns…..
Great sprcial effects for a 1920’s movie! Impressive.
I’ve decided I’m going to bring back spats.
That is absolutely amazing. What movie? I think the heyday of movies like this (and Sammie) was the late 50s to mid-60s. Very well done song and dance number.
But where can I get a snubbie that holds more rounds than my XDm?
Mr Davis was a huge gun guy. He owned at least 100 Colt Single Actions.
As Frank said above he was a quick draw fan, as well as competing. I got to tour his house in Vegas before he passed to help inventory and appraise his collection. He also had many Hi-Powers, various other Browning and some 1911’s (I remember a few customs from King’s) and mix of S&W revolvers.
