Sandblast… powder coat… make $100 profit:
You can check out the product page yourself over at SkyMall.
Cool looking end product, but come on! I don’t have a sandblaster or a powdercoat setup but if I wanted something like this I’d definitely figure out a cheaper way to get it done just on principle.
Please don’t tell me any of you guys are picking these up as Christmas gifts now that you know about them. haha
Thoughts?

HOLY SCREAMING WEASEL FARTS!!!
I may just be sitting on about NINTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!
That means I just might be rich enough to get hilariously drunk!
WOWWWWZZZERS!
Yeah I guess I am not getting it. This is for clowns who buy full price “zombie” ammo at sporting goods stores. I personally could care less about what my ammo cans look like. The only thing I care about is an intact body and a decent seal on the lid.
Is that a powder coat? Looks really shiny, I’d suspect bumper-chrome plating.
Which is also really cheap.
If you want to get a plating tank, I’m more than willing to sell you a few of my cans for a share of the profit…not that I suspect many people are buying these.
People who like ammo cans, know ammo cans, and know a scam when they see one. people who don’t know ammo cans, are scared that the ammo can might shoot their children while they sleep.
I agree on the chrome plating, I’m just going by what they say in the description though.
Ammo can murders are no joke.
Why wouldn’t you just Plastidip one and spray paint it silver… lol
That color could indeed be a powder coat…
As someone that used to own a powder coating business I can say that $110 isn’t as outrageous as you would think. Especially is the inside matches the outside finish. If it were me and someone brought that to me asking for the same set up I would have charged $50 and then in the end wish I would have charged a lot more… Hense the reason that I don’t do it anymore
You cant find a beat up ammo can for under $20 around here, closer $40 for the 50 cal ones.
The price of steel now makes them worth a lot just in scrap.
But even if you buy one, give it a quick sanding and spray can it you are adding $15 or $20 to it so as outrageous as this seems, it might not be that overpriced.
lol wut? Steel is under $0.40 per pound, who the hell is going to sell a ammo can for scrap? And where the hell are you looking for ammo cans? You can buy a 16 pack of BRAND NEW 30 cal cans from CTD for about $11 per can. Used grade 1 30 cals are going for $10 and grade 1 50 cals are going for $15.

guess you cant post links without some text
You can, but you posted two so it got flagged for spam.
Ah, i see. Thanks
Those are 40mm cans not 30 or 50 cal cans, which is why they’re about $40
you are correct, my bad.
30 cal is 19.99 and 50 29.99
You might want to stop buying ammo cans from a auto parts store.
Sure it isn’t skymall, and not Cheaper than Dirt???
haha good one :P
If it came full of ammo, I’d do it. Then I’d paint it flat black just because I dislike “chrome.” LOL
holy crap… I’m going to start buying .50cal cans($8), media blasting them, then taking them to get electroplated… for that matter I could buy a old used oven and a new powder coating machine…
can you bedazzle them too?
Krylon makes some very nice spray paints. might be cheaper.
I personally like the ammo can speakers http://www.instructables.com/id/Ammo-Box-Speakers-1/
What’s even worse is that this ammo can is not even true chrome plated. The product description states it is powder coated to look like chrome.
