Come for the Microsoft destruction, stay for the slow motion:
ROFL at the operating system taking up 18 GB out of 32 GB on the device. It’s worth shooting for that reason alone. That keyboard looks like a pretty slick idea though I’ll give them that, but it looks a bit too flat to be functional without looking down at the keys.
LOL on sale for $604.. regularly $1000? Uh yea I’ll pass.
Thoughts?

Tablet instead of tabled?
Got it, thanks Heath.
Considering I am a IT-Professional at a University, my desktop is currently filled with Win 8 devices ,one of the perks is that I have building and deploying Win OS to 3000+ clients.. It does not really take up 18Gb of 32Gb… unless you really want it to, however I would take a Win 8 Pro tablet over a RT tablet anyday. I still would recommend Win 7 to anyone I know, but besides the wonky Metro UI, that drives everyone mad enough to start wars, 8 is not a bad OS.
Still, given the chanse I would shoot it up.. I have already put a few .50 BMG through diffrent types of computers and network gear (again, one of my few perks :D ) so why not trough a Win 8 Tablet.. after all I got 110lbs of 9mm deliverd too me yesterday, and I need to sling some brass around!
really? not likey win 7? that goes against every thing everyone knows about windows.
Everyone knows windows suffers from something akin to the star trek curse where every other release sucks.
If my computer dies today i am buying something i can downgrade or waiting for 9
Oh, I love Windows 7, considering I planed & built infrastructure and Client soultions for 1500+ faculty members and 11000+ students :) I like everything about it, and I still recommend it for Enterprise use. sure, Win 8 does work in a Enterprise enviromet (running it on several Machines in my pool, for evaluation), but the new, tablethandy UI that is the first you see, is not built for Enterprise use… When you pushed out 50 apps to a client, the Metro UI suddenly looks like a roadkill. Sure there are nice and cheap 3rd party apps like Start8 that gives you a nice familiar start menu, and hides away metro so deep it is mining coal in Alaska. There are however some nice features, sadly mostly stuff I find useful as an administrator, burried inside Win 8 that a normal user will hardly notice.
That said, we are looking at a possible Win 8.5 during 2013 Q1-Q2 to bring more “Enterprise” features back – in other Words, most likly the familar Start Menu and a way to lock away the metro UI. 2014 we will see Windows 9 stuffing Enterprise and Consumer back into one OS.
That said, to much IT talk, not enough about Guns!
MSRP for the Surface is $499, not $1000. That’s just some Amazon Marketplace “partner” who’s jacked up the price due to the holidays and supply shortages on the base model.

This guy is annoying.
Every time I see dual wielding now, I picture Sonny P. shooting some innocent bystander.
I’m so sick of watching people destroy expensive gadgets for entertainment. Some poor kid could probably use that for school and one day cure cancer or do something equally important.
download donkey porn you mean?
I have to agree.
Oh, dave w..
Over the line.

Thoughts? Yeah, you be ignunt.
Surface RT is for those that want to have a tablet and be productive. It comes with Office Home and Student 2013 for one and that’s $120.00 by itself for the current version if you bought it as a stand alone purchase.
Basically, Win 8 RT is a full fledge OS optimized to run on a ARM processor.
Get the pro version and hell you can install anything you want. It’s a true desktop / laptop replacement in a tablet form.
No iPad or Android tablet around that you can install all your current Windows software on and use on a tablet.
Surface also allows for extra storage through a USB port or with a MicroSD card should space be an issue with the 32gb model.
The flat keyboard operates like any other keyboard.
If you know how to type on a keyboard then you can use the surface keyboard.
They also have another version that is slightly thicker but has real keys on it.
For those who want to be productive, or atleast want try and be so, the Win 8 Pro slates is the ticket. can run x64 Windows 8, can be reinstalled from OS deployment systems, can take a SCCM client to alow for pushing full, real applications to them. Then again, I am not sure is working with 3D cad/cam on a tablet/slate is the best idea… :]
What a wasteful society we have. We really are living in a brave new world.
The Surface runs a real operating system. Other tablets run bullshit-ass gimped phone operating systems.
At least the guy didn’t destroy tens of thousands of rounds of ammo in a fire just to prove nothing at all like the SAAMI “safety test” video. LOL
