Spent shell casings and a blow torch used to create a picture of a famous person that was assassinated:
Obligatory deep meaningful “purpose” statement:
The materials I have chosen to use serve my purpose because of the blatant and emotionally charged response they evoke. These mediums already have a strong mental imagery that is attached to them. Around the world they are still used to either help build dreams or destroy the dreamers. My hope is that you will feel the agony and then see the miracles that can arise from choosing to create rather than destroy.
Now that that’s over with…
According to the contact page he charges $10000 – $25000 for one of these!
Not a bad wage if he’s selling the things! (Be right back… tumbling brass and looking for blow torch.)
You can check out more pictures over at his website Bullet Proof Art.
Thoughts?

HOLY SHIT.
An artist juxtaposing firearms imagery over a famous victim of gun violence/traditional symbol of peace in order to make the controversial statement that firearms kill people and that violence is, in fact, bad? The originality and genius of such an action just BLEW MY MIND and made me SHIT MY PANTS in awe.
LOL
In the artist’s defense, he did say “Around the world they are still used to either help build dreams or destroy the dreamers.” so he did allude to guns being used in a positive as well as negative way. All in all a pretty cool idea.

Every time, it’s there every freaking time! These art posts keep getting more hilarious.
I think these would be slightly more amazing if the primers didnt have the little indention from being fired. Those little “dots” are a bit off-putting.
“It is my belief that most of mans’ loftiest pioneering endeavors are hard to manifest and the surface of my art is as hard as the subject matter. I feel it is fitting that I have used the heat of a torch to bring about the shadows of lines and furrows seen in the faces at hand.
The heat and light of the torch reminded me of purifing strength that is forged by fire while simultaneously illuminating altruistic philosophies and new concepts.”
Artists would make GREAT car salesmen.
Who is that and why should I care?
The subject matter? Lincoln and John Lennon, I think.
@Grindstone
I honestly don’t care for this kind of art either. It paints a terrible image of firearms.
I guess we should also have paintings of women on cutting and/or ironing boards to represent them… I’m sure that would go over well. -cackle-
Thoughts? I think he’s going to price himself out of work.
I think they’re pretty cool looking.
Looking at his site’s slide show, he even did John Wayne.
Cancer shot John Wayne, after all.
As a designer/artist/gun guy I really like the idea and even had a few similar ideas of using spent brass as a medium for art. It really annoys me, however, when artists think every piece they do has to have some overlying message to it. If you don’t like guns please be original instead of chroming an AK or making an RPG into a flower pot and calling it art.

For me to pay that much for spent brass would be Berdansome…
