Want to change your comment icon (avatar) from the default grey/white glock?
“Poppy” asked about the custom comment icons the other day, then a bunch of you showed up with them. I never though to make a post about it until now, because I thought people didn’t care to have a custom thumbnail … not because they didn’t know how to do it. The icon will show up across ALL wordpress blogs you comment on, not just mine. This even will happen on past comments you have made with the email address you register.
If you want a custom thumbnail:
- Go to Gravatar.com
- Click on the “Get your Gravatar today” link
- Enter the email address you use to comment on wordpress blogs
- Check your inbox for an email from Gravatar.com to verify your account
- Log in and upload the picture you want to use. You can change this at any time.
Be creative, it’s your personal branding. Show yours off and leave a comment below.
NOTE: After you set up the account, verify that your picture is shown under all the ratings at http://en.gravatar.com/site/check/[email protected]

+100 Mike!
I actually did not know how to do this until it was mentioned.
Avatars are like customizing one’s own weapon (even if it’s just adding night sights). It’s unique, and kind of gets a point across, what that point is I don’t actually know for sure.
I am happy to say that I picked mine based off police brutality videos and my love for blasting NWA, Public Enemy, and Body Count’s “Cop Killer” while near police in my car. I think it’s cool, except the brutality part.
Did it work?
test 2
You may have to set your profile name as “Punish3r”, not your account name on gravatar, but just your profile on it. That’s how I got mine to work
Hmmm I don’t think the name matters. I sometimes type ENDO-Mike on other blogs, and sometimes Mike-ENDO etc.. and they all work. I’m pretty sure only the email address matters.
It’s definitely tied to the email address only. I had to make up some username for the Gravatar site (I think I wrote it down somewhere…) that is different than I use for anything else. Obvioulsy “Josh” is pretty generic, so it doesn’t matter what I type in for my name, only that I use the same email address.
Humm anyone else running into problems with it not showing? Tried it on two different browsers as well.
It takes awhile, it took abbot an hour for it to change for me.
Worked right away for me when I did mine the other day.
I’ve had problems with Gravatar images showing up in the past…check tomorrow!
Yay, my thumbnail makes me feel special and wonderful, like a beautiful butterfly. Or a tacticool AR-15.
All bask in the awesomeness of the American Power Ranger!
Heh. Mine is a headshot of some concept art for a Korean MMORPG.

What if it shows a G for g rated and image for pg and above.. is that a problem?
Yea there’s your problem — http://en.gravatar.com/site/check/ENTERYOUREMAILADDRESSHERE
God damn it people, this isn’t rocket science! If you can’t figure it out by now, just leave it alone; it wasn’t meant to be. If you really insist on getting it to work, go find a 15 year old who has a computer; I’m sure they can sort it out for you.
ARGH! WHAT HATH I WROUGHT?!?
Well, I think I got it to work…..
Aw, shnap.
Ya I had to make a new one.. My mistake was checking “PG” and not “G” in the first steps. I didnt see any way to change it either. Thanks
Rather than use a different email address, when you log into your account just hover over the thumbnail at the the bottom and the “PG” will appear.. click it and change it to G
thanks
