Armed Man Arrested At NC Airport As Obama Departs

Asheville, North Carolina – Regional Airport police arrested a 23-year-old Ohio man who was carrying a handgun and listening to police radio scanners near the runway around the time President Barack Obama’s flight was leaving Asheville, according to investigators.

Joseph Sean McVey, 23, of Coshocton, Ohio, is charged with going armed in terror of the public, a misdemeanor, said Asheville Regional Airport Police Capt. Kevan Smith.

Full Story – HERE

So showing up to “talk” to the president with a handgun, a fake ass police car, no valid license, and rifle scope dope is only a misdemeanor? I would have assumed it would be been treated a lot more seriously.   The article said McVey was just in the parking lot though, so I guess it wasn’t considered an imminent threat.

I also wonder why he was monitoring police frequencies, and had digital cameras mounted on his front and rear windows.  It would make sense if he works for a security company, because all that equipment would probably be standard in some company cars.

  1. He sure looks like a creepy little weirdo. Although, in fairness to him, I suppose there are few people who look good in a mug shot. But it sounds like there’s something more to this story than has been reported, regarding the police-type equipment that the vehicle was equipped with.

BTW, he would be an “imminent” threat, not eminent. Means something different.

Yea hopefully we find out some more info on this soon. Also, thanks I corrected the word.

  2. EEEEEDIOT….

If it wasnt bad that this chump was playing undercover, he chose to be in the same airport as Obama… I think this is one of those unwritten rules that if you’re doing something you know to be wrong, you stay away from things that can make it worse. I wouldnt be surprised if charges get upgraded to impersonation should someone come foward with more info about this guy. The article didnt say that they found a scope and/or rifle, so the dope would appear to be more media sensationalism of nothing. ( I love the riflescope formulas thingy, it makes it seem so more sinister, doesnt it? :})

As for the camera, i think the article said the camera was in the front window, so maybe that was his “cop cam” for if and when he made stops? In my dept, there was a off duty female officer that was stopped on a parkway by a LE-looking unmarked Charger, but when the “trooper” came up to the window in plainclothes with a badge that the troopers dont use and acted more like he wanted her number than he was interested in a stop, she ID herself as an off duty officer, at which point he tried to bolt, but she managed to do one hell of a job and he was collared. In his vehicle was a security cam on the dash connected to a laptop where there was footage of his fake stops, and he even had a portable picture scanner, where he scanned in about 40 or so female driver’s licenses. When County PD contacted the women, he had tried to contact most of them after the stops, and one swore she saw him following her a few days before. He also had a lights/sirens package, radio scanner, cuffs, OC, and a stun gun (not taser, a actual stun gun). His weapon was an Airsoft Glock. ( He shoulda researched some more, we use M&Ps here :D) Sadly.. they wouldnt let him be detained at our jail, he’s at another county’s facility :}~

Holy that story about the unmarked charger and fake cop is pretty scary. Glad to hear he was caught!

    McVey, or McVeigh? Coincidence?

Anywho, did the guy who went the wrong way through airport security to say goodbye to his girlfriend get charged with a felony? If so, this is one screwed up country. And immigration laws, too. Trying to make a Constitutional case against Arizona for doing the right thing. Ugh.

Yea that Newark airport breach was hilariously blown out of proportion. In my opinion, they need to start looking at these things objectively on a case to case basis. Another perfect example is that finger gun incident I posted about a week ago.

  4. Another crazy impersonator. this guy is just a wannabe cop but after the media gets through with him he will be remembered as the guy who tried to assassinate the President. He is F-ed for life

Oh yeah because a tracker, handgun, and lights in a car make you crazy…. right.
Last time I checked, it’s perfectly legal to open carry in NC, so no laws are being broken there. It’s also not illegal to have a Trunk Tracker or other radios. And as for the strobes, those generally aren’t illegal in and of themselves either, unless they are red and/or blue, and even then simply having them is not a crime… using them is. The siren is the worst thing here, and even then, it’s a matter of how it’s used. And as much as some LEO’s wish they were (in order to avoid being caught with their pants down)… having a dash mounted camera is not a crime.
I see no federal laws being broken here at all. At worst he may be guilty of some local statutes, which will likely result in nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

Now the combination of all of this may demonstrate unsound judgment on his part… and perhaps he was up to no good. However being stupid is not a crime, to spite many people thinking it is (or that it should be). You also can not charge or convict for a crime that never took place.
Oh so he COULD have been up to no good. He COULD have been there to try and assassinate the president. Nothing happened though. Accept it and move on.
