Toronto, Canada – A pro-marijuana rally is the last place most ‘smokers’ want to see the police, but that rapidly changed on Tuesday after someone pulled out a gun during a 4:20 demonstration at Yonge-Dundas Square.
Details remain sketchy, but it appears that a male suspect pulled out the weapon, causing a wave of panic as the crowd tried to disperse.
Full Story – HERE
I’m not really convinced it was a real gun, even though according to the news story the cops said it was real. If you see the picture posted in the article and if you check out the video around 38 seconds, the magazine well is odd looking and red colored. Regardless, it was very heroic of the guy in the video to disarm him because its not like he would have known if it was real or not… and could have suffered grave consequences.
UPDATE: At the CTV Toronto (HERE) there is another picture and they are calling it a “possible firearm”:
Ideas on the make/model anyone? Or am I right in thinking its a toy or replica? At the very most, I’d say it could possibly be some type of ghetto .22LR because it doesn’t look like the slide reciprocates.

Looks like a larger version of a savage 1907–though the clips on the news show the red magwell–it looks like its empty…possible he tried pistol whipping someone and that’s where the red comes from?
It does look a lot like the Savage 1907, but I think Mike is right in the comment below about it being a Browning/FN M1922.
Good call on the Red being blood.
It looks somewhat like a Browning/FN M1922 in .32 acp to me. The grips look wierd tho’….
I’m pretty sure its the Browning.
Wow good call.. Judging by the pics on Google images I think you’re right.
I like how at 00:25 they sped up the footage to make it look like people were running.
Yea that was so obvious I figured they weren’t trying to hide it. Although I guess it does look more panicked when it’s sped up.
Yeah, I have to go with FN Browning too, but it looks like a double stack based on the grip width. I don’t recall there being such a creature. Otherwise, it looks very real.
Old ass Hi-Power maybe? Anyway, this is a good example of why the rest of Canada hates Toronto.
Looks like someone should have sparked up a little early.
I was there and we went like WTF when everyone got up to run only found out today it was because of a guy with a gun, well that was the answer we got but wasn’t sure. I hope the news put me smoking a bong later on when this crazy lady was dancing, I think that woman was on acid lol
hahah sounds like an interesting event
Yup, it’s the Browning. Kudos to the spotter above. At first glance I assumed it was a Tokarev but upon closer inspection, bingo!
my friend was there and said that the red part on the gun was a peice of the guys face who fought it away from the suspect…..just so you all know-it WAS a real gun. Would it really matter anyways?
Thanks Jen! Like I said in the post, it was heroic of the guy to tackle the gunman, real gun or not… I’ts not like he would have known in the split second he decided to try and disarm the guy.
The topic of this blog is guns though, and we are all enthusiasts and are naturally interested in the make/model etc.. whenever a gun is talked about in the news.
I’m just happy the Canadian media didn’t try to say it was an “assault pistol” or some ridiculous term. I’d rather them admit they didn’t know, then make a uneducated guess.
Hope the guy who fought the gun away is healing nicely.
that can’t be a .32… They’re banned here in Canada. Where would he get one? If they’re banned, no one has them, right? Oh, yeah… LOL
haha yea… what a mystery! :P
