Researchers at the University of South Carolina, collaborating with others from China and Switzerland, drastically increased the toughness of a T-shirt by combining the carbon in the shirt’s cotton with boron – the third hardest material on earth. The result is a lightweight shirt reinforced with boron carbide, the same material used to protect tanks.

Pretty cool, although even if the bullet could no long go “through” you, you’d still die from having your shirt pushed a few inches into your chest. Damn that would be painful!

Maybe not good for keeping you alive from blunt force trauma, But likely excellent protection from shrapnel, especially as an undergarment.

No kidding! That would be pretty ironic to live through being shot, but die from the summer heat.
